Jewbilee

“I have been to similar ‘Shabbatonim’ put on by other organizations.  The main difference I observed between the Jewbilee and those was that, with those, they had the attitude that we were privileged to be there… what I liked most about Jewbilee is that you really cared about our opinion, it was almost the other way around.”

-2009 Jewbilee Participant

Jewbilee brings together Jewish students, friends, and allies for a weekend retreat to explore Jewish identity, enhance student leadership and community, and enrich the experience of independent school culture. Teachers are encouraged to attend with their students, and TCI hosts parallel professional development workshops for faculty.

Jewbilee embodies TCI’s vision for “big tent” Jewish community. In a multicultural world, friends and allies who are interested in Jewish culture and identity only strengthen our community. Everyone is welcome!

Jewbilee 2009
January 16-18, in Boston, MA

The theme of this year’s Jewbilee, Jewish in 2010: What is it?, was designed to inspire students to consider how they understand and practice their own Jewish identities, and how they envision their identities changing in the years to come. We also wanted all participants, Jews and friends, to consider what it means to be a supportive ally to one another on campus.

Throughout the weekend, we asked students to share their thoughts about…

1)      Jewish identity,

2)      being an ally at Jewbilee, and

3)      how they would describe the Jewbilee experience to a friend

Here is what some of them had to say:

Jewish Identity…

On Being an Ally…

Jewbilee is…
